Rock Band on PS3 Wireless Guitar Troubleshooting?

The star power will not activate now matter how far I tilt the guitar, can anyone help?

1. I've found the quality of the instruments on Rock Band to be pretty poor. I have the PS3 version also, and you have to shake the guitars ridiculously in order to activate the Star Power. Go crazy on 'em (which will probably make you miss the next couple notes). This is the case for both guitars that I have. While I haven't seen it myself, I've heard the wired ones register more accurately. When playing RB, I miss the quality of the Guitar Hero guitars - those activate perfectly.
