Wireless Troubleshooting

What steps need to be taken to setup a wireless network?

I have a old computer with Windows XP 2002 and a DSL modem. I bought a wireless router yesterday and when I tried to install it, the setup wizard said that there is no network available in the computer. Another problem is that my computer has no ethernet ports. The DSL model connects via USB. So I'm not sure exactly what I need to set up a wireless network, which I'm im trying to do to get internet on the PS3. I don't know if there is a router that can connect to your PC with a USB cable. And do I need anything else installed to set all this up?

  3. you are talking about wireless networking, so your pc must have a wireless card installed on it. The wireless cards are available in 2 forms. Cards to to be installed on the Mother board and USB connected types.
  4. no the DSL modem is enough tht is connected with USB cable... u need to insatll the modem drivers first...so install the disk which came for the modem and not the internet setup disk provided by ISP ...if the modem driver has been installed u can checked tht in start>>right click on MY COMPUTER>>properties>>hardware>>device manager..and you should seem tht under modem ..if ou see the dsl modem with a yellow mark then the driver for it has not installed.. once modem driver is installed go ahead and install the ISP disk and select the USB connection methd while setting internet if it asks... thts it....restart computer ...nothing more than tht... open your IE and internet should be working
  5. Hello, Your best option would be to get a wireless network USB key for your current cabled PC. Then, setup your wireless router with your DSL modem. Make sure you secure your wireless so your neighbors don't have access to the internet through your ISP. That would be the easiest route. Good Luck.
