Wireless Troubleshooting

How do I connect to a wireless network, when my laptop says that one is available?

I am new to the wireless networking, and need to know a few things about it. I was recently staying at a hotel and my laptop picked up about 5 wireless connections. 4 of them was showing locked, but one was showing Holiday Inn. This of corse was where I was staying. So my question is that when my computer shows for example "Holiday Inn" for a wireless connection, what steps do I need to take to connect to this network. I really need to know step by step. P.S. I am really new to the wireless network system. For example, on my desktop at home I still connect with dial up at a blazing 45.2Kbps. Any thing you can tell me will help out a lot.

  1. Click on the little terminal with three wave marks on your task bar. Right click and choose View Available Networks. If there are any there that are not secure and have a good signal, click Connect and go.
  2. The clerk at the Holiday Inn should have instructions for you on connecting to their network, in case it's encrypted. Sometimes, it's a matter of opening up your browser, typing in the web address the clerk gives you and then putting in the login info he provides.
