Help troubleshooting wireless adaptor problems? It worked fine last night, but when I booted this morning, my wireless adaptor was disabled in the device manager. I tried troubleshooting it, and immediately after that the adaptor vanished from my device manager and network connections. I reinstalled the drivers with no success, and had no success with a destructive system recovery, either. Is there anything else I can try to do before resorting to taking it in to be looked at? Scrappy P, thank you for confirming what I was afraid of. It's possible that the laptop is still under warranty, but if not I'll have to take it in and have it replaced. I'm just not comfortable working on the hardware on these things.

Wireless Network Troubleshooting: Frequently loses Connection? I have a 2 story house with 4 PCs and 1 laptop throughout the home all connected via wireless router. 1 PC is hardlined to the Cable modem. Frequently, the wireless connections go out, sometimes come back within minutes, other times longer. This happens to all PCs at the same time, so I don't believe it's the related to the individual PC's wireless reception. (the hardlined PC continues to work, even though the PCs connected wireless have lost their connection - so we assume its not the internet provider) I have a repeater to boost the wireless, and I've tried 3 different routers. Yet this happens almost daily. What's going on and how can I fix this?

Troubleshooting Wireless Adapter? I have a Compaq by HP computer. My wireless stopped working and I have come to the conclusion that something is wrong with my wireless adapter. I have a wireless switch on the front of my computer with a light that used to go off when it was switched off, but, now it doesn't do anything and the light never goes off. Also, there used to be an icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen for the wireless adapter but it isn't there anymore. Windows Server 2008 Wireless Troubleshooting? Alright, I have just installed Windows Server 2008 on a free partition on my computer, and as some of you who saw my last questions may know, I am having a lot of trouble in getting it to connect to the internet. Unfortunately, the wireless networking adapter I have plugged in to my laptop (It's a NETGEAR WPN511 RangeMax PC Card) isn't compatible with Windows Server 2008, so the first time I installed the drivers and software to get it to work, it kept saying all through the installation, "The Netgear installer has stopped working" and I kept clicking ignore. Then when the installation was done, I clicked on the Netgear Smart Wizard to start up the software, and got the same error. Then i got a new idea, I went onto the Netgear website and downloaded all the available version drivers for the WPN511 to try and get it to work. I downloaded version 1.4, 2.0, and 2.1 (which is the one that I already downloaded and installed that wasn't working) and I installed them. Version 2.0 got the drivers installed, so now the WPN511 shows up in the list of hardware in device manager so that is progress, but when I try to open the software to connect to a network, an error box opens saying "NETGEAR WPN511 PC Card is not insterted." I know that I am so close to getting this to work, I just don't know how. Is there some sort of tweak I can use to make it maybe not work with it's own software but the Windows Connection Manager instead? I just want to connect to the internet so I can set up a domain for my network. Can someone please help in my final steps to getting connected? THANKS!!!

Hi, anyone have any ideas why my laptop's wireless doesnt work properly? My laptop's wireless signal cuts out and then wont find a wireless signal, despite being several metres from my wireless hub. Sometimes it works fine but have better chance of getting signal by elevating the base of my laptop slightly. I dont get a signal outside my room, when our other laptop gets signal in the garden which is 2 floors downstairs.Any suggestions? Roadrunner wireless internet troubleshooting...? I have wireless internet through RR and the wireless part isn't working at all on all three computers. The computer that is connected to the modem works fine. The lights on the modem telling whether or not they are connected (1, 2, 3, 4) only show that one computer is connected. Belkin G Wireless router troubleshooting? HELP!? I'm having trouble making my wireless g router connect to the Internet. I followed the easy install process and all the steps go fine except until the end when it's trying to make or find an internet connection. My SBC Yahoo DSL modem as four little lights that are usually turned on when I use it directly to my computer: Power, Ethernet, DSL, and Internet. But when I connect the Ethernet cable to the router and another connection between the computer and router the Ethernet light of the modem just stays off throughout the installation process and I think that might be a reason why its not connecting to the internet at that last step. Is my modem not compatible for the router? I also tried going through the web based process but it was kind of hard to know what I need to change I tried changing the IP Address of the router to that of my computer but it still didn't work when I did the easy install process again. any suggestions?

Wireless Internet connection troubleshooting? Hi, I get wireless internet from the local unsecured network. Everything was working great until this past Sunday. Now, both of the unsecured networks have a yellow triangular icon and will not let me connect. The error keeps telling me to check my router and plug in my LAN. Since i don't have access to the router what can be done? This isn't an issue with my computer as my Nintendo Wii is unable to access the internet as well. Netgear MA101 wireless network adapter troubleshooting? ok well i have a netgear MA101 wireless network adapter and well it used to work until my dad recently only made our network only available to our own devices by their mac addresses and he has stopped broadcasting our network so no one can see it. is there any way how i can get my wireless adaptor to work without me having to reenable broadcasting (because my dad doesn't want to) however the network adapter is on another computer not this one. but if you need to know this i connected it to a computer that's windows xp (sp1) just in case you need to know. Can you help me troubleshoot a connection to my wireless access point? My desktop is connected to my Linksys WAP. I can connect my laptop to the WAP with an ethernet cable. But when I attempt to connect the laptop to the wireless, it says status "connected", but I'm not getting any packets back. I also went to the WAP IP address, and it is refusing my connection. Hmmm. They also happen to live near a bunch of college students, and their internet speed drops off tremendously when the students get out of bed. I know how to set up security, but I am curious to know if the wardrivers are causing their problems. How can I tell how many people are logging on to their wireless connection? How can I fix the wireless on my laptop? I have an HP G60 laptop, refurbished. It cannot connect to my internet router all the time through wireless. It will work when it's wired though. Need Help Troubleshooting Home Wireless Networking Connection Problem? I have cable broadband internet service with a Linksys wireless broadband router, SX-400, the fastest/strongest made when I bought it. I have 4 PC's on my home network, 3 desktops and 1 notebook. Two PC's are hardwired to the router; two are connecting wireless. The problem is with keeping connectivity on the notebook. It connects on startup at 54 Mbps and then the speed starts to drop. Although it connects, pages are very slow to load, sometimes don't and I get a timed out error. Then when the speed gets to about 5.5 Mbps the pages load faster. But then after a short while the connection drops and I must reconnect, or it does it auto. Usually when the connection speed is in the 20/30 range, pages take a minute to load, or time out. Please give me some suggestions on cause and on fixing. All other PC's connect fine.

I'm having problems with the X-Box 360 Wireless Network Adapter, what should I do? I have a linksys Wireless-G broadband router. Everything seems to be working, except for my network being connected. I put in the WPA key and still nothing. I've come to the conclusion that I might have to broadcast my information from the router, I don't want to, but it seems to be my only solution. Heres whats happening: I'm not able to obtain an IP address in any such way. The repair tool won't work. I can release the IP address and renew it to windows default. Signal strength is very good. Logitech Wireless Headphones aren't working with my iPod shuffle? For some reason I can't get my iPod shuffle to work with the Logitech wireless headphones that I recently bought on Amazon. The headphones and transmitter sync but for some reason when I connect my iPod shuffle or Mp3 player to the jack extension cable and then insert it into the transmitter I don't seem to be getting anything. My laptop gets a great wireless signal everywhere but at the local coffee shop where wireless is free.? My laptops wireless signal works just fine everywhere but at the local coffeehouse where the connection is free and unencrypted. The ipv4 connection is local only and the ipv6 is limited. My desktop's wireless is not showing any available networks when there are available networks!? I've never used the wireless on my new HP Desktop.. I need help installing my linksys wireless router? I am using a Dell PC, and yes, I have utilized the installation disc that came with it the router. At some point I am asked for my IP address and Gateway something or other and a few other items I don't know. I've gotten my IP addy b4 but have forgotten how now. When I first tried it I couldn't find one of the other pieces of information it required and just input my IP addy in the remaining spaces, mistake. I get to about step 10 and it stops there. I refuse to pay the Geek Squad $150 to do something that takes all of 15 minutes. SOMEONE who knows how to troubleshoot this and get my wireless running (I am tired of hot linking) gets 10 points for best answer.

how do i troubleshoot file sharing on my wireless network? i have 2 comps hooked up to a router one is wired one is wireless. they both can access the internet. i have tried the network wizard, created a workgroup, turn on file sharing, shared folders on both, i cant map a drive and i time out when i ping each other. is there something i am over looking? when i try to map a drive i get an message telling me to contact the admin, which i am on both comps and router.

How can I get my Acer Netbook an IP Address from my wireless router? My wife bought an ACER netbook and we have a NetGear MR814 wireless Router. We've been trying to get the Laptop to connect however it keeps telling us that the IP address cannot be found. I've tried repairing network settings and ipconfig release and renew but still cannot get the laptop to hold an IP. How else can I troubleshoot or resolve this?

My wireless internet keeps switching on and off? Hi, My Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHZ router has something wrong with it. The internet connection will still remain ' strong' but I cannot load any internet page. It only works when I restart the wireless router, but about 30min later the same thing happens once again. Why won't my wireless card work? I have a laptop and a farily new 2 Wire wireless card. I used the wireless card in a year but now that I need it again it won't pick up any signals. The troubleshooting says that the card is functional, the problem is with the network. However, there is another laptop in the house that gets the signal just fine. My firewall is turned off. Both lights on the wireless card are on. Any suggestions?

Problem with new laptop connecting to the internet via wireless? Until last night everything was fine but when I tried to get online on my HP Pavililion brand new laptop I had an issue. It found the wireless network I always use however it would not connect to the internet. I restarted and tried using the troubleshooting on Windows Vista but it would not work. Using Windows Live Messenger it would say "your gateway appears to be offline" with Error Code 80072007. What am I supposed to do? the error code was 80072ee7

I bought a pair of Logitech Wireless Headphones for my iPod shuffle but for some reason it isn't working.? For some reason I can't get my iPod shuffle to work with the Logitech wireless headphones that I recently bought on Amazon. The headphones and transmitter sync but for some reason when I connect my iPod shuffle or Mp3 player to the jack extension cable and then insert it into the transmitter I don't seem to be getting anything. I've adjusted the volume numerous times to see if that was the problem but to no avail, that didn't do the trick. Any way of troubleshooting or solving this problem?

Sometimes my wireless internet connects at the cafe, sometimes it just WON'T. Why? Can you give me some troubleshooting tips, please. Following the same steps, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. My notebook automatically detects the area's wireless connections. I've set it to automatically connect at home and at the cafe up the street. Sometimes it just doesn't connect at the cafe AT ALL. I can see it and detect it, but going through all the steps doesn't do anything. What do you suggest? Thanks a million!

Problems logging onto wireless airport and syncing IPod--? I'm helping a friend set up his new Mac (actually it's refurbished). For some reason, he's unable to log onto my wireless network. He's using the correct password, but it just isn't connecting. Also his IPod is not appearing in iTunes, so we're unable to sync it. Does he need to be on the network to do that? Any Mac Addicts have any troubleshooting suggestions??

Second Laptop will not connect via wireless anymore? Sorry if this is confusing, but here goes: I have an older Dell that I just put a wireless notebook card in to connect via wireless. It worked fine, showed good signal strength, etc. Connected via IE browser, no problems. Next day about 2 hours into working, it lost the internet connection. Wireless icon showed excellent signal, however, when trying to reconnect via IE,or Firefox or AOL browsers no connection to the internet is possible. Tried yahoo messenger...nothing. MSNLive messenger...nothing. When troubleshooting, it said there is 'no connection to the server' and the DNS or key port shows a yellow exclamation point when troubleshooting the MSN messenger. Turned it off/on...reset the router...uninstalled/reinstalled the card, even dowloaded the latest browser from the net to flash drive from the first computer and uploaded it to the dell...nothing. I am currently at wits end...any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have troubleshooting tips for a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter? My boyfriend has a desktop computer with a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter. I don't know for sure which model number, but it looks like this one "Part # F5D7050" on Belkin's website. He has been able to connect to the wireless network before. This weekend, he wasn't able to get online. I went through the network connection setup steps in the software for the adapter, and he was online again. Then yesterday, his computer said that it couldn't detect an adapter, though it was plugged in. I wasn't there, so he was asking for help over the phone. I really have no experience with wireless adapters. He unplugged the adapter, plugged it back in, and it was detected. It wanted him to go through the installation CD again. But it had an unknown problem during the installation. I don't know what kind of router his roommates have - they keep it in the attic. Is there a reason why it works fine sometimes and not other times? Are we making some kind of fundamental error? Is this a bad adapter? Is it not compatible with the router? So frustrating...

Anyone know about Wii wireless connections? I'm using a linksys WRT54G wireless router and have it connected successfully to my computer and actiontec GT701 modem (Qwest DSL). I can get my Wii successfully connected to my network, but it won't recognize my internet connection. It keeps giving me error code 52030 ("Unable to connect to the internet."). I have tried the troubleshooting steps on http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/errors/results.jsp?action.x=0&action.y=0&error_code=52030&system=Wii&locale=en_US but none of them have helped. Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on and/or how I can fix this? The firmware might be a good lead, I'm working on that now. The router is currently on channel 11 - I've tried 1 and the default was 6. the Wii doesn't even find the network if I have ch1 active and gives the same message if I have it on either 6 or 11 I've updated the firmware for my router but it's still a no go. I also tried a connection on another available (unencrypted) network in the area and was able to get an internet connection. Could the problem be with the modem?

Wireless Connection issues with Windows Vista? I just purchased a new Gateway laptop for my daughter and it came with Vista Home Basic. I have four other computers in this house and they all connect fine to the wireless network I have set up. This new computer shows there is a connection available but it will not connect. When I select diagnose problem it tells me it failed to connect due to an unknown problem. I've tried troubleshooting this online but I'm not having any luck. How much to charge for computer/network support work? Wondering the appropriate rates to charge for side work doing computer and network support for small businesses in New Jersey area. Some previous searching seems to indicate $60 to 100/hour is fair, thoughts and comments? This will mostly be simple stuff for novice users, small business who have no "computer guy" so it's setting up new PCs, upgrading and/or reloading old ones, occasional troubleshooting, broadband router and wireless setup, etc. Might only amount to 1 or 2 afternoons per month per business as a side job. Can Net Provider tell if 2 computers are connected to wireless router? Ok, I have two computers. Originally only one computer was wired to the wireless router and the other one was wireless. But the computer using the wireless was going really slow and disconnecting alot, so I connected it to the wireless router as well. So, can the internet provider tell that I have two computers hooked up to the same router/connection? The reason I am asking is that Our internet provider charged one of my friends for having two computers hooked up since the rate only covers one computer. I dont rememer exactly how she had it hooked up, but I know it wasnt through a wireless router. I just want to know do I need to go back to the wireless and do some troubleshooting or can I leave it the way it is and not worry about getting double charged? I just checked, and both computers have the same IP address. Our internet provider has on their website that if you want to have networking in the home, ( or more computers) that it is an additional $30 a month to pay for their device, that we cant use our own.

My laptop has stopped connecting to the wireless internet (bt homehub)? Basically we have a desktop pc with the homehub connected to it, two laptops and 2 other desktops which run off the wireless signal. one laptop and both desktops can still connect to the Internet, however one of the laptops stopped earlier on. I think it was because I uninstalled Norton Antivirus because it was out of date and wouldn't scan anymore, and set up the windows firewall. (Since I restarted tyhe computer, I have only been able to achieve limited connectivity, and so I cannot surf the Internet or use MSN etc..) When troubleshooting the MSN connection, it says there is a problem with the default gateway (or something along those lines..) Does anyone know how I could perhaps sort this out? I've tried restarting the homehub thing but nothing there, nor does turning on and off the wireless on my laptop work. Any help would be excellent thanks! (I'm currently writing this on the main desktop) The laptop is using Vista Basic (wish it was running XP but oh well..it's the new one). And also I've checked the button, wireless is definately on lol. I'll turn off windows firewall in a second and see what happens..

How can I get my internet to work/get my resolution right? If you saw my question a while ago, i said my computer didnt work. I ended up reinstalling windows. But I couldn't find the installation disk for my computer, so I used the one for my parents computer, which is also a laptop. Unfortinately, I can't change the resolution so I can make everything smaller, unless I make the colors horrible quality. Also, the troubleshooting guide doesn't work. Also, I'm using wireless, but it wont detect the wireless card, so I can't install the card. It should be able to detect it because the computer it came from has a card slot, too. What's wrong? I don't want to pay for a new one, so please help. I'm only 12, and my parents say I would have to pay for the whole thing, so you don't know how much I would appreciate any help you can give. im not stupid. i know how to change the resolution, but it wont move
